An advent guide for the wo/andering child
Throughout the Old Testament, we see examples of kings, some were good, some were evil. All were human, which means they were sinners and because of their sin, they were not the leaders that the people truly needed. The Old Testament tells the story of one specific group of people called the Israelites. God chose the Israelites to be His people and to show the rest of the world his great love.Read the entire lesson by clicking the following link.
Did you know that before there were pastors, there were priests? Today we can go to God when we are in distress, need a miracle or need forgiveness when we have done something wrong. We can come to God in our rooms, outside, in church or anywhere. The reason we are able to do that is because Jesus is our priest. Read the entire lesson by clicking the following link.
Have you ever imagined how it would feel to be a stranger in a new land? My whole life I have grown up in a place where the majority of people speak my same language. But imagine moving to another country where you are unfamiliar and you do not know the language. Imagine if your king and priest also lived as a stranger with no place to lay their head? God, the very one who created us wants to be with us all the time. Though God is separate and distinct, he desperately loves and adores his children. In all the deepest places we need love and where we don’t feel loved, God loves us. Though we cannot see him like we see other people, we are made in his image. That means we look like God. In many ways we can see him all around us in nature, colors, music and the very most in people. Imagine that every single person looks a little bit like God. God does not need to be seen with our two little eyes. In fact, our eyes alone don’t even allow us to see all the greatness and beauty of God. Spending time in prayer and learning more about who God is through reading the bible and experiencing his creation, teaches us how to see with eyes more clear than the two we have on our faces. Often, these eyes are referred to in the bible as the heart. On December 25th we will be celebrating the coming of our Jesus, God who came down and made himself a baby to be with us! This is worthy of celebration and joy. Read the entire lesson by clicking the following link.
This curriculum is intended to offer a simple and approachable way for parents to lead children through the advent season by providing activities, readings and music that help children connect with who Jesus is.

Each week, a list of five activities is provided focusing on one specific quality and attribute of Jesus. Through nature exploration, art activities, home play, food and neighborhood adventures, children are drawn further into the heart of God, learning to see Christ’s story in all things.Feel free to do all or none of the activities based on your own family’s capacity.
Music
Each lesson includes a few songs that children can listen to throughout the week to help the passages of scripture and the activities sink into their hearts and minds.
Reading
Whether you are using the storybook bible or the scriptures themselves, an Old Testament reading for each week has been provided to show children how the scriptures are constantly pointing to Jesus. A link to a video version of the Story Book Bible is provided at the top of each lesson.
